How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on the individual, especially as confidence plays a huge role in achievement.
My advice, if looking for exam support/ private tuition, is to not leave it until the last minute. Remember, English in particular is a big subject, so requires a number of sessions.
With private tuition, I offer a half price taster session, during which I can ascertain how much extra help a student may need.
With LAMDA, students will not be forced into exams; they need to feel ready to enter.
What is your cancellation policy?
Anything less than 24 hours will incur the full session fee, unless there is a genuine emergency.
24-48 hours will incur half the session fee, unless there is a genuine emergency.
For private tuition, over 48 hours will not incur a fee, but be aware it may be difficult to rearrange your session for similar times.
How do you measure success?
Personally, I am the most thrilled if I can equip a student (child, young person, or adult) with the confidence to approach their exam, audition, or speech. If the student is inspired to work hard, where they haven’t before, then I am more than happy.
However, LAMDA and some private tuition culminate in examinations, and what I want to see is the student make progress, achieve the best they can, and be their best selves on the day.
I can’t sit the exam for them, no matter how much I wish I could, so it is my job, and vocation, to ensure they have the skills and mindset to go into the room and achieve, and for it not to be a horrible experience.
That said, I have always had students achieve higher in exams than when they initially came to me.
Are you DBS checked?
Yes, I am fully DBS checked for working with Young People, and am a member of the Update Service, so you can check my status at any time.
DBS number available on request.
For adults, I have a basic check. This is because it is not required unless you are a vulnerable adult, in which case I would ask for a carer or a responsible other to be present.
Again, I am on the update service, and my number is available on request.
